We are called to live as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6 states, “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” Does this mean that we have to be perfect? No! And thank goodness because then none of us would make the cut. I know I wouldn’t. Jesus came because God knew we never could or would be perfect. But we are called as believers to walk in the Spirit. And when we begin to walk in the Sprit, it will be easier to live as Jesus did. To love like Jesus did, a love that is without conditions. This will lead us to want to make better decisions for others in our day to day lives. Not only that it will allow us to begin to love ourselves the same way, and also wanting to make better decisions for ourselves as well. The more we love someone, including ourselves, the better we will want for them.
Unconditional love is key here. Think about it, Jesus never said “Once you stop doing this or that then I will love you. Then I will accept you and die for you.” Jesus died for each of us knowing full well all we would do in our lifetime. That is a selfless love. That is the love we are called to as believers. What does this look like? Pray for others even those that have wronged you. (That is not the same as keeping them in your life allowing them to keep hurting you.) But you will be amazed how much easier it is to forgive others when you pray for them. It is not easy at first I know, but it will get easier in time.
