Surviving The Storm Part 1… Malta… The Season You Didn’t See Coming.

IMG_3629Malta… The Season You Didn’t See Coming. But you are there. Now what? As we go through this series it’s my hope we get a little better at figuring that out together and through the word of God.
Acts 28:1 “Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta.”
Paul found himself on this island after a terrifying boat ride where the passengers were sure they were going to sink. Paul was on this ship after being arrested for spreading the gospel. Paul knew however that they would not sink because he had been told so by angels of God. Paul’s ship was set to go to different ports and then from there he would be transferred to Rome to stand before Caesar. But due to a storm he was blown off course and landed on this tiny island called Malta. This island was unfamiliar, cold, rainy, and its natives spoke a language Paul was not familiar with.
I wanted to start here with this blog series even though it’s in the middle of the passages we will be discussing, because I think it’s where a lot of us find ourselves right now. On an island we didn’t see coming, after a stormy season we didn’t see coming either. And now we are left in unfamiliar surroundings, in a life we didn’t plan, trying to figure out what to do next. As we go through this series together it’s my hope that we will learn together how to navigate our stormy seasons and wherever they land us.
Just as we will see that God was with Paul the whole way, we will see that He is with us too. We just have to trust Him with our ship. And where it lands us. We may not have a choice in where that is. But we do have a choice in how we view it and act while we are there. We will also look at different perspectives to take on during and after our stormy season. If you’re like me you can be so set to see things one way, and totally miss the real way it’s meant to be viewed. For example, not everything that happens to us is about us. Sometimes it’s about being able to help others, as we will see in Paul’s story. I am super excited about this series of blogs over the next few days. They will be broken up into three categories. First will be “Reason”, second will be “Revelation”, and third will be “Response”. We will be unpacking Acts 27: 1-26 and Acts 28:1-9 if you’d like to do some reading before hand. 🙂 I can’t wait! I hope you will come back and take this journey with me! ❤
