Make Sure You Are Plugged In…

IMG_4182The other day I was talking with my sister about when we were younger and our mom would ask us to vacuum. Me being the stubborn child that I was I would take the vacuum around the house to make tracks but I would not plug it in. That way when my mom came home she would think I had done what I was suppose to do.
It wasn’t until I got older that I realized what I had done. I had put in the same amount of work as if I’d actually vacuumed. I just didn’t get the desired effect of a clean floor. Why? Simply because I refused to plug into a power source. Sounds silly right? But I bet if most of us thought about it, we are guilty of it almost everyday. We are busy, putting in the work, but we aren’t getting the desired effect. Getting to where we are meant to be. But what is our power source?
As believers our power source is God. It’s Jesus. It’s the Holy Spirit. But how do we plug in? First it’s admitting that we need them. Then it’s reading the Bible every day. I do 10 minutes a day. Usually in the morning to get my day started right. But any time of the day works. It’s whatever works best for you. Along with reading the word it is praying everyday. Multiple times a day. Not just before eating and going to bed. I pray first thing in the day, last thing in the day, and small prayers in between. Basically if I feel the need to reach out to God I do. It’s also taking the time to listen though. To listen to what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell you. It’s not enough talk to God, you have to listen too. It’s listening to worship music. Music that can fill you with the Holy Spirit, the presence of God. It’s all I listen to now most of the time. But at least take some time daily to listen to uplifting music. It’s surrounding yourself with people who point you to God. Not that you can’t spend time or be friends with unbelievers, just be sure when you need advice you are going to those friends who will help lead you to the right decision based on Gods word.
I have done a lot of things in my life where I’ve put in the work. Given it all I got and still failed. Why? Because I refused to plug into God. I went on Christa power. I thought I could do it all on my own. So if that’s you today, trying, working, giving life all you’ve got, but things aren’t working out. Or you feel like you are having to try too hard. Plug in today. Go to God. Spend time in His word. Pray, asking for discernment, strength to keep going, or to stop and go in a different direction. Change that radio station to worship music. Whatever you need to do to plug in to the one who gives you power. It’s changed my life for sure, making this a priority. I’m sure it can do the same for yours. ❤
