Guilt… Taking Our Lives Back…

C7597D5B-DE0D-407B-944B-D58BA4213A25.jpegGuilt. It’s been coming for me the past couple of days. I swear that devil knows when I’m making some progress. And the thing is, He isn’t even original about it. But yet I still fall for it. I’m a stubborn one. After coming out of my illness and having to totally depend on God for all my needs, I thought I had truly learned some lessons. Especially getting rid of guilt once and for all. That and doubting God. But that’s another blog for another time. Today let’s focus on guilt. Guilt is “a feeling of responsibility or remorse for some offense, crime, wrong, etc., whether real or imagined.” It’s a feeling. And feelings can be manipulated. No one knows this and uses this better than the devil. But we don’t have to be his puppets. And I for one am tired of his tactics and lies. So how can we protect our feelings about our past and future decisions. For even the most guarded by God will still fall short. I myself spend an enormous amount of time trying not to sin. And it’s just as tiring as the guilt felt from my sins. There has got to be a better way. How can we protect ourselves from past regrets and future, all while not striving daily to always do the right thing?
Ephesians 6:11, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.” Satan can not stand against the truths of our Lord. James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We make it difficult, our human flesh is strong, but it really is simple. I didn’t say easy, but simple. The more we go to God, the more we surround ourselves with His word and others who point us to Him, the easier it gets to take on this life. Remember what John 10:10 tells us, “The thief (the devil) comes only to kill steal and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they (you) may have life, and live it to the full.”
I have learned that guilt is a life destroyer, a spirit destroyer, a faith destroyer, and more. That’s not what God intended for us. He wants us to live this life he blessed us with abundantly. Getting all out of it He intended. Yes life will throw things at us. But if we’re honest with ourselves, we throw a lot of it ourselves. I for one have created a lot of havoc in my life just by allowing guilt to run me and my life. Guilt leads to regret. Guilt leads to believing we are not worthy of good because of things we’ve done. That leads us to making decisions out of fear. Which leads to more guilt and more regret. It’s a merry go round. But not the fun one. So let’s look at what the Bible tells us, how it shows us to get off the merry go round. Here are just a few verses to remind you, me, of how we are already forgiven if we are a new creature in Christ. Simply put, you have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior.
Isaiah 43:25 “I am the One who blots out your transgression for my own sake, and I’ll remember your sins no more.”
Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with the Messiah Jesus.
1 John 1:9 “God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we’ve done wrong.”
There are more, more promises of God, letting us know that we are forgiven and loved. That’s what Jesus did for us at the cross. We just have to accept it in our heads and hearts. That’s where daily reading and meditating on Gods word helps us. It covers us like a metal armor would against the darts of the devil. There will still be days where we fall short and guilt begins to win. I’ve had that happen a lot this week. But I’m trying to learn through this daily walk with God, that it doesn’t mean I’m hopeless. He is there waiting to pick me back up, brush me off, and put me back on track with Him.
So let’s decide to take on the devil, to show him that he can’t have us. For he knows the war is lost, but he loves to win all the battles he can. Let’s decide to not be a battle he wins. Let’s stand up fully clothed in the armor of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:11-18) Let’s not just say “Not today devil”, but mean it by doing our best through Gods strength to live it out. I’m always praying for you. ❤️
