Love: How To Finally Win!

97CEB77B-4C2B-4536-833E-F104427D0C03Remember the relationship games “you hang up first” and “I love you more”. I’m sure most of us have done at least one of these. Funny though, how the only way to win either of these games, is to actually lose. If someone hung up on you, sure you technically won, but how did it feel knowing the other person just gave up? And the only way to win with the I love you more, is for someone to love you less. Still are you really a winner? Makes you wonder why we play such silly games. I know someone you can play both games with and always come out a true winner. God. Jesus.
Let’s stack up Gods loves for us. First of course there is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Sacrifice is a huge part of truly loving someone. God gave the ultimate sacrifice His one and only Son. Then there’s Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God sacrificed Jesus to forgive us of our sins. Forgiveness is another really big part of truly loving someone. Knowing they have faults but choosing to love them anyway. Then there is Zephaniah 3:17, “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” True Love is calming. When we know we are loved no matter what, a stillness comes over our soul. We get that from Gods love like no other. We are even made stronger through love aren’t we? That’s where Romans 8:37-39 comes in, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Plus God is always there to listen, He will never hang up on you first. Jeremiah 29:12, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” God is always willing to listen no matter how long you want to talk. Psalm 17:6, “ I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.”
We can never out love God. He is the the creator of love after all. His love is steadfast, never failing, and never withheld.
Then there is our Saviour. He also paid the ultimate sacrifice, His life. He died in an horrific way simply to prove your worth. To allow you to have a relationship with your Father in Heaven. Even though He didn’t truly want to. We see this in Matthew 26:39, “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” That is Jesus asking His Father for any other way but the cross to save you and me. Jesus didn’t want to die, but He was willing to, and did. True love is not about saying what you’re willing to do, it’s doing what you’re willing to do. Even when you don’t want to. Especially when you don’t want to. Jesus proved His love for you in that alone, with follow through. We all know that actions speak louder than words when it comes to love.
I don’t know about you, but I would fail all of these tests when it came to love. We in our humanness can be selfish, lazy, unforgiving, unwilling, and more. We can see through these scriptures and many more, just google Gods love for me or Jesus’s love for me, that we are not capable of out loving our Lord and Saviour. That means we are free to love them without fear. Without fear of giving our all and getting less in return back. Fear of loving more than we are loved in return. Without fear of rejection or hurt. I totally get fear in love. I myself am working on coming back from hurt and loss. More than once in this lifetime. Like I told a friend just the other day, I have no interest right now in being that vulnerable again with anyone but God. I’m restarting my vulnerable side with the one I know I can trust. Then when we have completely restored my heart and trust and faith, then I can go out and take another chance on human romantic love.
My prayer is the same for you. If you are dealing with a broken heart from unrequited love, that you go to the Ones who love you most. Allow God to lavish you in His love, to cover you with nothing but warm safe feelings and emotions. Allow Jesus’s sacrifice to show you how much you are truly worth. That you are worth everything including His life. That’s how we are meant to be loved. Please drop down those walls today and allow love to conquer all. As always I’ll be praying for you.
